The Colour Of Summer is the 3rd song from my song cycle TiLT. The video for this is highlights of Glastonbury 2024. It wasn’t my original plan for the music video but as I was at Glasto the last week of June and it felt right! Every month for a year I’ll be releasing a track from my new album “TILT” inspired by the seasons and the cycle of the year. I wrote each track during the season it was inspired by, weaving in field recordings from around where I live. Something New (April) from album TILT

Every month for the next 12 I’ll be releasing a track from my new album “TILT” inspired by the seasons and the cycle of the year. I wrote each track during the season it was inspired by, weaving in field recordings from around where I live. First release: April, Spring - ‘Something New’. Whilst the lyrics are all about spring and new life the arrangement is entirely inspired by ‘orc pop’, the sonic world of the pop orchestras of the 1960s and 1970s. As a 19 year old feeling lost and not knowing whether I wanted to continue playing the viola, I would listen to Morricone, Mancini, Bacharach, Herb Alpert & the TJB, riding on the top deck beside Hyde Park wearibg tinted yellow shades. To Life (May) from the album TiLT

The Earth's Tilt

The earth's spin axis is tilted with respect to its orbital plane. This is what causes the seasons. When the earth's axis points towards the sun, it is summer for that hemisphere. When the earth's axis points away, winter can be expected.

Tilt is a song cycle inspired by the four seasons. 12 tracks for every month of the year

The lyrics are both in the voice of Gaia and the observer, weaving between the perspectives whilst also considering the female cycle mirroring the seasons. Combining different compositional and production techniques Bertie weaves field recordings into the music bringing a sense of optimism and joy whilst cradling a sense of nostalgia and loss to match the eternal turning of the seasons.

I composed the 4 main songs, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter in TILT over a 12 month period, writing each song during it's respective season. At the same time I collected field recordings which I used to create the interconnecting electoacoustic compositions. I am releasing a song every month starting in April 2024.
